B-17 Collision at Townsville, Australia

Post by P-40 Petey »

Looking for the correct AAF serial numbers for the two B-17E bombers that collided on the ground at Townsville, Australia, on February 22, 1942 in preperation for the AAF mission to Rabaul, New Britain, on February 23, 1942. Who were the pilots of these two B-17 bombers? Who were the crewmebers? Were there any fatalities or injuries? Any details concerning this ground collision appreciated.

These two B-17s were piloted by Deacon Rawls and Frank Bostrom; that is all I have on it.
There is no official USAAF Form # 14 Aircraft Accident Report for this one. Would like the information for this one too. Man, those 1942 wrecks are hard to chase down. Need some help with this one.
