Doolittle Raid Survey Ship Crash

Post by Anthony J. Mireles »

Looking for any information concerning an AAF Douglas C-39 that crashed in Asia/China while enroute to survey airfields and set up nav-aids for use by the Doolittle Raid crews after the completion of their mission to Tokyo in April 1942. Not sure if the C-39 crashed in Asia/China or enroute. This incident is mentioned in nearly every book treating the Doolittle Raid but is never properly cited. Some questions: What day did the C-39 crash? What was the C-39's AAF serial number? Who were the crewmembers on board the C-39 and what was their fates? Any help appreciated. Thanks. Tony Mireles. http://www.warbirdcrash.com.

C. Glines mentions this wreck in his book, and it has been mentioned in other works treating the Doolittle Raid but it is never cited. I can't find any official documents concerning this crash. Is it true? Need some help. Thanks. TonyM.
