Finding of death reports??

Post by Leondus »

Hi,

I was going over a MARC and noted the word "All Dead" and was wondering if they would be a report on how they came to that conclusion.

finding of dead

Post by jayhain »

depending on your crash,if they didn't find the aircraft or the found it but not all the remains.the government then takes the matter to a court...which then will render a finding.like FOD=finding of dead,Mia=missing(usually they will declare the individial dead and use FOD)
note:if they found remains but they were not able to id them to a specfic person they would also go through the courts to have the idividiuals declared dead....they also base it on they likelyness of anyone being able to survive.....and witnesses if the plane had been seen going down or crashing

Thanks for the info.

I also just found out about the 293 file, Individual Deceased Personnel File for KIAs.
U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Public Affairs Office (FOIA)
200 Stovall Street
Alexandria, VA 22332-0404.
Enclosed in the letter the requestor should cite the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and provide full name of the relative, service number, and date of death (or whether the death was during WWII, Korea, or Vietnam).

Return mailing address is required. Please allow up to 20 weeks for the research process. FOIA fees are waived for requests from family members for death/burial records on their loved ones.
