Hi All,

This comes from Friday's NATIONAL:

Salvagers attempt to recover war relics from provinces

By JULIA DAIA BORE
ANOTHER Australian salvage team is in PNG attempting to recover war relics in East Sepik, Madang and East New Britain.
The team is from the 75th Squadron Flying Museum in Richmond South, Melbourne, Australia.
Documents obtained by The National showed that authority was granted to the Australian museum by the acting director of the PNG National Museum and Art Gallery Simon Poraituk at a time when he was acting as director in the absence of former director Soroi Eoe.
The authority was withdrawn upon protest by the then board of directors and a letter to the 75th Squadron to advise them of the withdrawal by Mr Eoe.
Yesterday, Mr Poraituk confirmed that a three-member team from the Australian war museum was in Wewak last week in the company of one of his officers.
However, he denied that the three-member team from the 75th Squadron was carrying out salvage work.
?I have put a stop to them carrying out any salvage work.
?My officer, who was with them in Wewak last week, is back so they cannot be carrying out any salvage work,? Mr Poraituk said.
However, inside sources at the museum have claimed that the 75th Squadron is currently in the country and is allegedly using the illegal authority documentations (by Mr Poraituk) bearing the National Museum and Art Gallery letter-head to facilitate their salvage work.
The National was unable to get comments from the members of the 75th Squadron Flying Museum.
