My name is Bruce Carlin. My father was John Carlin. I believe he was a TSgt or SSgt between 5/1944 and 4/1944 when he was attached to the 394th Bombardment Squadron, 5th Bomb Group, 13th AF. He was a radio operator/top turret gunner. Due to a picture sent to me by the son of his co-pilot, I think his plane was the Sky Vagabond. He died a few years ago, and never talked about the war. I am retired Navy. Anyone with info on my Dad, please contact me. This is my first ever forum, and I am going to try to figure out the member profile, so my email will be in there. Thanks!

From Manitowoc wisconsin graduated Lincoln High School in 1958 and then on to Univ wisconsion and USAF for 4 years. Currently living in san Jose California 95120. My interest is in Submarines, 28 were built in Manitowoc and 4 were lost. USS Logarto has been located by divers and confirmed that it was a Manitowoc built sub. My grandfather worked on the submarines during their construction at the local shipyards. He took me and my family to view several of the launchings being within several feet of the sub prior to launch. I currently am a member of the Friends of USS Rasher organization, a manitowoc built submarine which was responsible the second highest tonnage sunk during WWII. A friend of mine Ken Tate was a torpedo man on the USS Rasher and he resides in Manitowoc for many years. While I have quite a bit of history on the subs built in Manitowoc, their sea trials and their trip down the waterways and on their way to Austrailia for fueling and torpedos. I am really interested in the remaining 3 that are lost somewhere in the pacific. There are some thoughts on where they might be but no proof has been forward at this time. Interested in any and all activities related to their being found and identified. They will probably have to remain to be treated as grave sites unfortunately, but the families of those lost should have some type of closure on their loses, at least knowing for sure where they are today.

Hello All.....I've just signed up on Pacific Wrecks and look forward to participating with this group. My aviation interests are centered around aircraft of the USN and USMC. I am an aviation historian, photographer and author and have written a number of IN ACTION books for Squadron/Signal including three on my favorite plane, the F4U Corsair. I look forward to both enjoying and participating on this web site.

Hi - I am a new member. I live in rural New York state. I have always been interested in history particularly Civil War and WW II. I have a particular interest in WW II as I recently had a book published "My Life in the Service - the WW II Diary of Staff Sgt. Jack E. Bates". Unfortunately, it hasn't sold well as the publisher has not promoted it well. It took close to twelve years to research/edit/publish. I enjoyed writing the book as I made many acquaintances with veterans from the 22nd BG - Red Raiders and those who helped make the book possible. Unfortunately, most of the veterans are now passed on. Justin Taylan was one of those who helped extensively in the research by allowing me to quote extensively from this web site. I have submitted a book for review with Pacific Wrecks and am waiting for that to be posted on the web site. I also am researching my family genealogy and enjoying that as well.

to include in my new member e-mail. My book is concerned with a gunner on B-24's who served with the 22nd BG, 2nd BS and I would be honored to correspond with anyone interested in this group. I have a lot of information to share especially during the time period of October 1944 - October 1945 when the diarist served in this group in the Pacific.

My uncle, Lt. Charles E. Konkle was a Bombardier in the 13th AAF, 5th Bomb Group, 72nd Bomb Squadron. His B-24 was shot down 10/10/1943 during a mission to Bougainville. The aircraft and crew were lost and never located. I am honored to be named after my uncle and live in Lee's Summit, Missouri, USA. I am interested in all aspects of the air war in the Pacific, but particularly as it relates to the 13th AAF. I will be happy to share any information I may have.

It is an honor to be part of this community of people dedicated to preserving our WWII heritage.

My late father, Marvin King, was a right scanner on a B-29 with the 371st Bomber Squadron (307th Bomber Group)
flying out of Kadena, Okinawa. His aircraft was shot down by Russian-piloted MIG-15s on April 12, 1951.
He was in a concentration camp until released on September 4, 1953.

I have written two books based on my personal interviews with Japanese WWII veterans:
"The Last Zero Fighter" and "A Tomb Called Iwo Jima."

I lived in Japan for 10 years and can read, write and speak Japanese. If I can be of any help don't
hesitate to contact me. Dan King -

My name is Martin Minsky, and I am the son of Arthur Minsky, a WWII veteran who served in the air force. He was a navigator with the 320th Bomb. Squadron, and was stationed first at Iron Range, then at Port Moresby. When he died at 94 in 2013, I aquired some of his records, developed an interest in the air war in the SWPA, and discovered this site.

New Member from South Carolina..

Greetings from the coast of SC. I am originally from Boston and my Dad served in the USAAF as a Tech Sgt.
After basic training and specialist schools including time in Greensboro NC he served in the CBI theater at the Myitkyina airfield and participated in Operation Grubworm one of the biggest airlifts of the war.
His unit was the 1348th AAFBU and mission was to load troops, equipment and pack animals that flew over the mountains of Burma to China . I am interested in hearing from families and anyone that has more details about CBI and especially Myitkyina. I have rosters, orders, some pictures that I am willing to put up on the site as well as exchange with other researchers. I would also like to see that the veterans of what came to be known as "The Forgotten War" are not forgotten. In my mind many of the men in the CBI should have gotten awards up to an including the Medal of Honor. From what I read Vinegar Joe Stillwell was not a big awards or commendations guy.I think there is a lot of unfinished business that is up to us to correct .

My father was Jack M. Berkovitz, WWII US Air Force pilot, Jolly Rogers, 90th Bomb Group, 320th Squadron, in the Pacific. I have a photo of his crew with names of crew on back. Navigator is listed as Arthur Minsky. I saw posting on this site by Martin H. Minsky and would like him to contact me. Also anyone else with info on this Squadron as it relates to my father. Thank you. jean.freeling@comcast.net
