I have been doing some research regarding the location of USS Panay when is was hit and sunk in the Yangtze River by the Japanese near Nanjing in December 1937. I believe the official reports of the location are not correct. Instead, I have been trying to determine the location by lining up and analyzing pictures of the sinking and then comparing that to topography in the target area. I have made a lot of progress although still have not been able to nail it completely. I am looking for others who have perhaps researched this topic or who might have information regarding the current status of the wreck. For example, is it even still there?? Did the Chinese eventually salvage the wreck and, if so, what did they do with it??
