I'm a licensed collector of curio and relic firearms. So far my collection consists of WWI and WWII era battle rifles. Did the aircrew on board Mitchells have individual side arms. If so, that could open up a new field of interest for me.

The USAAF usually issued M1911A1 .45 Autos to air crew members. If you run across a .45 Auto that was carried home after the war by an ex-serviceman, you could contact Springfield Research Service (You can Google their website.) They have a partial list of serial numbers of .45 Autos issued by the army during World War II.

Another interesting "collectible" would be the flare guns carried aboard aircraft during World War II.
