B-25D 41-30073

Unfortunately, I found an error on the Pacific Wrecks excellent data base: According to the AAF Form # 14 Aircraft Accident Report: B-25D # 41-30073 crashed on May 16, 1943. According to the testimony of the pilot, taken on May 17, 1943: "May 16, 1943, in B-25D 41-30073, about 1300, I took off from ...

B-17F # 41-24427

Looking for information concerning the loss of B-17F # 41-24427. What is the correct date of loss? I have conflicting info; Freeman gives date as September 19, 1942; other sources state September 15, 1942. Which is correct? Need crew list; need MACR number; this airplane was MIA---was it ever found?...

Re: B-24D 42-40523

This one is solved. I have the report on my microfilm. Just did not look back far enough.

The airplane went missing on 29 April 1943 with a crew of ten. Lt. Frederick L. Gossell was the pilot.

Zamperini B-24 loss

Looking for the AAF serial number for the B-24 that Louis Zamperini was flying aboard in May 1943 when he was forced to ditch in the Pacific. Need correct date and/or MACR. I had a copy of Zamperini's book "Devil at my Heels" but through no fault of my own it was destroyed in a terrible accident (al...

C-87 41-24027

Looking for correct date for the accident involving C-87 # 41-24027. The accident report I have on microfilm indicates that the accident occurred on 2 August 1943. But the accident report is filed under 1 August 1942. The 1943 date on the report could be a typo error and the accident is really 1942....

Re: B-17 crash Dec 1940

You can get the accident report from the Air Force Historical Research Agency at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Alabama. Or if you want it faster, you can order the report from Craig Fuller at Aviation Archaeology Research and Investigation (AAIR). Or Mike Stowe at accident report dot com. Good Luck with ...

B-17E # 41-9209

PacificWrecks Forum Members: I recently became aware of a photograph published on the pacificwrecks.com summmary for B-17E 41-9209 purportedly depicting the B-17 accident involving Maj. Kenneth McCullar at Jackson Airdrome on 12 April 1943. The 43BG Association (Ed Gammell) sent me the same photo a ...

Re: C-87 Crash at Canton Island, Phoenix Group

Thanks for posting this.

Just what I am looking for.

Believe it or not, the AAF serial number is not included on the accident documents on the microfilm.

Re: Help finding a crashed B-17 in New Guinea

The only AC that I could find that was named "Cuddles" during WWII was a B-24H 42-52337, which crashed on 23 July 1944 in Italy. The airplane was part of the 763BS/460BG/15AF. Not likely that the USAAF was using B-17s in combat in the PTO in 1944 or 1945. RBreak7, Please provide as much detail as yo...

There is no link in the post.

Can you re-post the link?

There were a number of fatal USAAF airplane accidents at or near Archerfield, Australia.

Re: Seaplane crash near Peral Harbor, 1945?

Somehow, it seems odd that all of the engines would quit at the same time, much less cause the plane to nose dive. Rob The loss of power would not neccesarily "cause" the airplane to nose dive into the sea. It is more likely that it would be the actions or inaction of the pilots that would cause th...

Re: Seaplane crash near Peral Harbor, 1945?

Did the accident happen at night? That is one way the airplane could have nose dived into the water while under control. Another scenario--The pilots could have had their heads in the cockpit while trying to figure out the power loss problem when they inadvertently flew the airplane into the water. ...

Re: Pacific Wrecks Data Base Index

Addtional post since I can't edit my previous post:

Further, I have used the search mode on the Pacific Wrecks home page but this still does not help. The listing for aircraft is non-functional. Are all the airplanes in the data base listed in the month-by-month chronology?
