IWO JIMA KIA

Can anyone furnish me or tell me where I can find a list of the USMC/USN OFFICERS killed in action or who died as a result of wounds during the battle for IWO JIMA?
Thanks , jose50

Iwo whatever..

Brigadier- an interesting story. In my humble opinion, however, I feel that the island in question should remain IWO JIMA just for the sake of the history and the memory of those who were killed there, Japanese as well as American.

torpedo boat wreck

Is there any more information about this torpedo boat risen from the depths? Are there any photos or videos of salvage? Was it raised high and dry on a reef or only just glimped? Any idea of identification? Too many questions? regards, jose50

Band of Brothers Pacific theatre?

Brigadier, I just read with interest your post regarding a "Band of Brothers" type production possibly following a group of USMC through the Pacific campaign. Have you any more info on this? The original "Band of Brothers" was so compelling that I really thought that Hollywood would have done the sa...

Jose 50

Hello all, jose50 here. My interest in the Pacific theater of WW2 was instigated by my dad who was a USMC officer during that time. Growing up I was often told stories of what it was like during that time. Of course, then, WW2 was recent history, a matter of 10-15 years. In the course of my investig...

nothing new.

Here it is March of 2007. Nothing new, just visiting the post to see if anyone has sent in a reply. Capt. J P DALY would have been 88 years old this year. My research has gleaned a few extra facts about Guadalcanal and LTCOL Cresswell's battalion. I also notice that my post has been viewed more than...

leave them be..

It would be an impossibility to raise and restore all the aircraft lost during the various Pacific campaigns. What would the criteria be? Why just aircraft? Why not raise and restore to running condition or museum quality the hundreds of warships lost during this time, or the submarines, or the oil ...

Art Buchwald

Writer/Columnist Art Buchwald passed away yesterday. Not only was Mr. Buchwald a prolific and famous man of letters, he was also a Pacific War veteran. A member of the USMC he served with distinction on Guadalcanal and other Pacific venues. Another Pacific ghost. R.I.P.

19th century sub

A 19th century sub??? Really??I would have thought that after close to 150 years in the salt air and water that any ferrous hulk would be FAR more deteriorated than that! I mean... just look at some of the documented WW2 wrecks that are close to the same degree of oxidation and... it does give one p...

USMC on Guadalcanal/USS SOUTH DAKOTA

I had posted several queries in some of the old forums regarding my father Capt. Joseph P. Daly USMC. I remember asking about his time on Guadalcanal as a 2nd/1st Lt ( XO of B-1-1) and the Battle 0f the Tenaru. If anyone has any recollection or knows about him or LtCol Creswell's battalion during th...
