19th BG

I had an email relaying a Facebook query from an 'Andy' re photos of 19th BG B-17s in Australia, P.I. and Java for an article he is writing. I suspect 'Andy' is Andy from West Oz, a regular contributor and I may be able to assist him but I don't have Facebook. He can contact me on bo.balford@hotmail...

Re: American losses over Borneo

David, Try the ADF.com RAAF Serials Series 2 website under the A72- numbers. That will give you the RAAF B-24 aircraft histories and their losses. Also try the 380th Bomb Group USAAF site or get a copy of Glenn Horton's book, The Best in the Southwest. That has a rundown on the group's B-24s and the...

Any photos and part numbers present on the wreckage would be very helpful in at least identifying the type and then trying to confirm the aircraft and circumstances...

Re: Hiryu BII-124 Lost 19 February 1942

In response to Peter Dunn's request on his Ozatwar site for assistance in clarifying the loss of A6M2 BII-124 perhaps the following may assist in confirming the Japanese losses over Darwin on 19 February 1942. The text below is an edited version of a manuscript I prepared based on a range of sources...

The Daily Updates area of this site provides a link for contributions of information. Over the past three years I have provided information via that link to update or correct information, however none have seen the light of day. One was regarding Val 3304 along with others. In light of this, I provi...

Looking for Ashley Moore

Does anyone have a contact address of a bloke by the name of Ashley Moore (or More), who posts message under the name 'Airlana'? I am posting this at the request of a fellow researcher in northern Thailand - 'Airlana' was posting data on Allied attacks on northern Thailand during WWII but the inform...

B-25 Mitchell N5-156

I am currently updating my Allied aircraft crash site files in the Northern Territory as much as possible but hindered with the bulk of my collection in Darwin. I am seeking information on the crash of B-25 Mitchell N5-156 of No. 18 NEI Squadron east of Hughes airfield on 21 October 1943. One crew m...

Ki-43 Hayabusa

The wreckage of a Ki-43 Hayabusa was found recently north of Bangkok and northwest of the former International Airport and WWII airfield at Don Muang. The wreckage was located at Pathum Thani and in the vicinity of a USAAF P-51 found a couple of years ago. If you 'Google' in 'Ki-43 found at Pathum T...

Capt Floyd Pell and 33rd Pursuit Squadron (Provisional)

In 1941 Captain Floyd Pell carried out a survey of airfields and facilities over northern Australia and a report was prepared. I did have a copy but it is back in Darwin. Does anyone have this report or any information on the 33rd Pursuit Squadron (Provisional) which was later commanded by then Majo...

Re: Crash of Red "A" Baby in Australia 1942

The aircraft in question crashed as it made an approach to Hughes airfield south of Darwin but apparently mistook the railway line as a runway. Three were killed but fortunately the 135th Medical Regt had moved into a camp near that of the 49th FG Interceptor Control Squadron called 'Jungle Jump' an...

Yep, will do. The official opening of the Memorial Wall is 18 February 2013. There are around 2,000 names currently being produced for installation.

Re: B-24D 41-23762

David - many thanks for that, but also for the link to the wwii memorial site - that's the one I've been after. The ranks and names you provided tie in with the plaque at the memorial in Queensland so the Pacific Wrecks page on the aircraft in the Search site will need updating. Many thanks again. C...

B-24D 41-23762

I am currently compiling a list of all Allied military personnel who were killed or died on active service in the NWA (Northern Territory, Western Australia and the Gulf of Carpentaria) during WWII. The project to compile the complete listing is for the NT government and its desire to erect a memori...
