Re: Kokoda Air Strikes - Anthony Cooper
Hi Michael Sorry to take so long to get back to you. Moved back to Victoria etc etc. I have Storm Over Kokoda on the shelf but I haven't read it. Cooper's Kokoda Air Strikes is a re-analysis of the air battles of 1942 only. I say "re-analysis" as the author doesn't take anything for granted and pull...

Re: Kokoda Air Strikes - Anthony Cooper
A bit of what I wrote in the "what are you reading" thread. Good book. Get it if you can. A good read and great overview of 1942 air ops. Quite sobering to see the poor results from high altitude bombing (despite the claims) and the generally poor organisation and supply the Allies had to contend wi...

Re: What Pacific based book are you reading at the moment?
Reading Anthony Cooper's Kokoda Air Strikes at the moment. It is an overview of the Pacific air campaigns in 1942 and how they impacted the Japanese attempt to take Moresby. While concentrating on the RAAF and USAAF's operations, the USN is featured as well as its impact on Japanese shipping and car...

Kokoda Air Strikes - Anthony Cooper
This is the latest book by the author of Darwin Spitfires and looks at operations over the Coral Sea, Guadalcanal and New Guinea as a single air campaign. A thick paperback of more than 500 pages but will be easy to read as the author has a nice writing style. Due out in Australia in July. https://w...

Pen & Sword in the UK are about to release a new edition of this book in hardback. Same cover etc but good to see a quality RAAF work getting 'out there'.

Re: New Book on 13th Troop Carrier Squadron
With the information included and alluded to in Ford's My New Guinea Diary (I think I've got the unit right) this book is really good to see. Pioneers.

F/O Edward Thompson Mobsby finally awarded Silver Star
This is good to see. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-14/administrative-oversight-settled-as-raaf-pilot-honoured/5322304 A 72-year long "administrative oversight" has been settled in Canberra, with the United States posthumously awarding an Australian airman with a Silver Star for courage. Edward ...

Re: Book on Mystery of Loss of RAAF Pilot Wilbur Wackett
Hi Daniel They found the remains of the aircraft he was lost in? Noted some interesting passages in the new Eagles Of The Southern Sky by Claringbould and Ruffato that mentioned Wackett heavily. He was shot down in his Kittyhawk and walked back. Quite the epic journey made all the more poignant when...

Has anyone read this yet? I only heard of it's release a couple of weeks ago but looks like she's been out for close to a year.

A very, very well put-together 'magazine' (journal is perhaps a better word for it).

His experiences travelling up the rivers of New Guinea in the late stages of the war and post-war to collect Japanese prisoners make for particularly good reading.

Re: Memoir by RAN Patrol Boat Officer
Very, very, very good book. Delightfully written. I got my copy about four years ago for $12.95 (!!!) so it can be found cheaply and not for some of the silly prices I have seen online.

Finally started David Vincent's The RAAF Hudson Story - Book Two which will be an epic read. Only a few pages in so far and it's going to take a while to get through but very much looking forward to it! The photos are brilliant too.
