Early War MIA Philippines
Folks:
My Grandmothers brothers wife's brother was MIA in the Philippines in an aircraft crash sometime before the death march. He was a passenger. Does anyone have a list of such crashes before the death march?
Thanks,
Chros

Gaston: Your theory is interesting, except the Planes of Fame Zero is not the one that had its tail chopped by a Helldiver. The Akutan Zero was the one that got its tail chopped. The Planes of Fame Zero is the sister ship to NASM's. Both were captured together on Saipan. It's possible the Planes of ...

Re: Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington
If it wasn't true why would it be mentioned in Boyington's book? I'm going from memory, but I think his book mentions that he shot a plane that he thought was Japanese, and then he recoginized it as American and stopped firing.

Re: Yuko Tojo
Has anyone asked her who was responsible for the massacre at Nanking, and as head of the Army why Tojo didn't punish the officers and soldiers responsible?

Re: Wrecks on Halmahera Island, Indonesia
Hi James: Yes, Kao is a natural harbor where the Japanese kept their shipping. There were several air attacks there in late 1944 when the Allies were moving across the bird of New Guinea from Noemfoor to Morotai. One of my friends went diving there, and says to be careful about diving there. Says th...

Re: halmahera ship wrecks, Indonesia
Hi James: I've been to Halmahera while visiting Morotai. There are books which discuss Kao and Halmahera a little. One is called "Morotai" another is "Pacific Sweep". In Pacific Sweep I read about Tom McGuire getting his 20th kill over Galela (a few miles from Kao). The Australian War Memorial has p...

I agree, it is a terrible shame that they were recovered. I just wish they were around a bit longer, so I could've removed a couple of the Zeros.
