RAAF Hudson crew did report sighting IJN August 8, 1942

Hello This link below revisits the controversy around what happened in the lead up to the Battle of Savo Island. The US Navy has now moved to exonerate the RAAF Hudson crew from the slur that they drank cups of tea at Milne Bay before reporting the Japanese forces sailing towards Guadalcanal. http:/...

Re: US P39 Aircobra recovery on Guadalcanal

sorry fellows - the aeroplane is actually a P38 Lightning. On Wednesday the Guadalcanal Premier fired off a pretty ill-informed statement on SIBC. The aeroplane was is not being removed, it was found last year by a fellow making a vegetable garden. Noo fees were paid to the national government. link...

Re: Aircraft Showcase - Pacific Theatre: Temora Aviation Mus

Is there a Beaufort being re-built in Australia? Would parts of the aeroplane be some of those taken from the Tadji airstrip in Aitape? There were many of these wrecks in the bush along side the airstrip. I lived there for 2 years and recall a group of Australians cutting bits off them sometime arou...

Re: New Book on Coastwatchers

Hi Andy I see from a previous post you have purchased the book, what did you think? Did you pick up on the errors? Like the mention of a coastwatcher reporting a formation of "B-52" bombers..... This mistake was repeated twice, once in what was supposed to be a verbatim radio transcript of the coast...

Re: New Book on Coastwatchers

this book is not worth reading. it is a potted history taken from other books and a few interviews. There is sloppy editing and factual errors, e.g. a catalina is not a four engined aircraft and the evacuation of coastwatchers from New ireland was not done by PT boat etc etc and more. There is a lca...
