Solomons / Rabaul WW2 airfield recon images

Hi, I am desperatly searching for old high resolution, top-down recon images of WW2 airfields in the Solomons and around Rabaul. I know there are a lot to be found in the PW archives, but they are in a very low resolution. My search in some archives and over google were fruitless up to now. Maybe so...

FSX Solomon 1943 scenario

Gentlemen, I have to mention this here because without the pacific wrecks website, this project would not have the extend to which it has been growing. I designed a freeware scenery for the FSX flight simulator, that regressed the scenery of the Solomons back to 1943. You will be able to fly from al...

Pagoda on Henderson Field

Gents,

I am trying to locate where the famous Pagoda stood on Henderson field / Guadalcanal.
Pictures suggest the right place, but I don't know how the runways is oriented in the images.
So, if you face in the 60° direction of the runway, was the Pagoda to the left or to the right?

Thanks,
Mark

Re: P-40 at Noro, Solomon Islands

That must be around the old Ondonga airfield then, and indeed, according to the PW records, RNZAF P40s were stationed there.

Contemporary maps of Solomon airifelds

Hi group, I see all these snippets of simple (army?) maps of the airfields and other installations in the Solomon Islands here on PW and wonder if there is a source or a database somewhere, and if and where these images are retrievable. I would need them for a private research project to see how the...

Re: What Pacific based book are you reading at the moment?

Nice thread, I have just finished "Flights of passage" by Sam Hynes, an autobiography of his time as a TBM pilot. Very interesting and a little unusual because he takes a very personal viewpoint and tries to describe what has happend through the eyes of a 21 year old "boy", in which - in my opinion ...

Hi group, my name is Mark and I stumbled over pacificwrecks a few years ago. I'm very interested in history and have been researching here a lot lately for a private little project about the Solomon Campaign. What a wealth of information! I really admire the work and dedication of you guys. Best, Ma...
