In the Pacific theatre, were there many Sergeant Pilots flying against the Japanese? I know between Australia and New Zealand there were 13,000 men who became Sergeant Pilots.

Spitfires and Hurricanes
Were these two aircraft used against the Japanese Zero and how did they fare in dogfights? I would assume they would have been flown by Australian and New Zealand pilots mostly.

That really amazes me that over 600 aircraft was lost flying over the hump. During Korea I flew with two enlisted pilots and the Chief told me he flew C-53s over the hump and did lose many of his buddies but he did not tell me it was that bad.
