Japan assures the U.S. that her troop movements in French Indochina are only precautionary.
First flight of the Navy Type 2 High-speed Reconnaissance Seaplane Shiun (Norm) in Japan.
USN: USS Arizona (BB-39), USS Nevada (BB-36) and USS Oklahoma (BB-37) return to Pearl Harbor after a night training and live firing exercise.
Task Force 12 (TF 12) under the command of Rear Admiral John H. Newton with USS Lexington (CV-2) with eighteen SB2U Vindicators from Marine Scout Bombing Squadron 231 (VMSB-231) and her complement of 65 planes with three heavy cruisers and five destroyers departs Pearl Harbor bound for Midway.
USAAF: Several B-24 Liberators arrive at Oahu for a planned photographic reconnaissance mission over Japanese military installations in the Marshall Islands and Caroline Islands.
USMC: F4F Wildcats from Marine Fighter Squadron 211 (VMF-211) begin daily dawn to dusk patrols in the vicinity of Wake Atoll.
