Location Lat 4° 12' 35S Long 152° 26' 19E Rakanda Airfield was located at Rakanda plantation on Rakanda Island in the Duke of York Island Group (Duke of York Islands) in East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG) at an elevation of 38' above sea level. Also spelled "Rakada". The Allies called this location "Duke of York Airfield". Construction During late 1943, the Japanese began construction of an airfield at this location. It is unclear if the airfield was ever completed or used during the Pacific War.
