(FEAF) 36th FS P-38s from Morotai hit Sandakan Airfield. Just after leaving the Airfield someone in the Squadron spotted a Jap ship in the harbor between Berhala Rock and the Town and the squadron attacked the ship and Capt. Ken Giroux's gunfire detonated High Explosive's on the ship's deck and it was sunk. The round trip for the 36th FS P-38's from Morotai to Sandakan and back to Morotai was 1500 Miles.December 25, 1944
