Gloster Meteor
Technical Information

Background
The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter that became operational during World War II. Design and development began in 1940 although work on the turbojet engines began in 1936 by Frank Whittle of Power Jets Ltd. During 1950, the Meteor F.8 upgraded version produced and was the primary jet fighter used by Royal Air Force (RAF) Fighter Command between 1950 until 1955 and with other nations into the 1960s.

Korean War
During 1951 during the Korean War, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) No. 77 Squadron converted from the P-51D Mustangs to the Gloster Meteor operating them from 1951 until after the end of the conflict.
