JAAF 68th Hiko Sentai or 78th Hiko Sentai |
Aircraft History Built by Kawasaki at Kagamigahara. Uncoded serial number unknown (three digits). Delivered to the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as Type 3 Fighter / Ki-61-I Tony manufacture number unknown (three digits). Possibly Ki-61 Tony 347, Ki-61 Tony 484 or Ki-61 Tony 521. Wartime History Assigned to the 68th Hiko Sentai (68th Flying Regiment) or 78th Hiko Sentai (78th Flying Regiment). No known markings or tail code. This Tony crashed to the east of the North Coast Road off the eastern end of Alexishafen Airfield. Wreckage By 2003, this Tony was mostly scrapped or otherwise disappeared. Enough wreckage is present to identify it as a Tony - a shattered engine, landing gear leg and one wing machine gun. Nearly all the aluminum has been removed.
