Aircraft History
Built by Nakajima. Delivered to the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as Type 97 Fighter / Ki-27 Nate manufacture number unknown. Aikokuki 292 (Patriotic Presentation Number 292) donated by Taio Kanayama (鯛生金山) with Taio Kanayama Kojimachi Tokyo City District (Co) [東京市麹町区 鯛生金山(株] painted on the fuselage.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 11th Hiko Sentai, 2nd Chutai. Painted with a red lightning bolt on the tail and head of a demon on the fuselage, plus two white strips on the rear fuselage, one vertical the other diagonal.

Mission History
On August 22, 1939 took off on a mission over the Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan area. This aircraft was shot down and force landed or crash landed in eastern Mongolia.

Wreckage
The engine and tail section were captured by the Soviets and photographed and studied, including an inspection by Voenno-Vozdushnye Sily (VSS) fighter pilot Stepan Danilov. At least two photographs were taken of the wreckage, the first photograph shows Soviet personnel the tail section with lightning bolt motif of the 11th Hiko Sentai with Aikokuki 292 on the rear fusealge. The second photograph shows Soviet personnel inspecting the engine and tail wreckage.
