Background
Built by Yokosuka 九三式中間練習機, Kyūsanshikichūkanrenshūki, Type 93 Intermediate Training Aircraft / K5Y was a two seat biplane training aircraft for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). Allied code name "Willow". At the end of the Pacific War, aquired by the Dutch then used by Indonesian forces and used during the Indonesian National Revolution (Indonesian War of Independence). Indonesian name: Chureng.

Production
The first 60 were built by Kawanishi. Production included 556 built by Watanabe, 60 by Mitsubishi, 1,393 by Hitachi, 75 by 1st Naval Air Technical Arsenal, 24 by Nakajima, 2,733 by Nippon and 896 by Fuji. A total of 5,770 were built.
