Background
Built by Grumman in Bethpage, NY as model G-15 as a single engine biplane floatplane. First flight April 2, 1936. Prewar and during the Pacific War used by the U.S. Navy (USN) and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) as a floatplane for utility and light duty. Variants included the initial production J2F-1 with a R-1820-20 750 hp engine with a total of 29 built.

The J2F-5 Duck model was built between July 1941 and March 1942.
