Aircraft History
Constructors Number 3857. RAF Serial Number AE502 from British Purchasing Mission contracts. Shipped to New Zealand on Manuel, BOC Unit 1 Hobsonville on 29 October 1941 and assembled at No.1 Aircraft Depot Hobsonville. To No.1 GR Squadron Whenuapai. To No.1 Bomber OTU, Ohakea 27 July 1943.

Mission History
While on a training mission, it tried to avoid a collision with another aircraft participating in the exercise and entered a spin during a steep turn. Crashed into the sea after evasive maneuvers in a training excessive 3 miles off Rangitikei River mouth. All the crew of five were killed. Written off at Ohakea on October 19, 1943.

Engine Discovery
MIA since 1943, a fisherman from Guards Fisheries on the western coast of New Zealand's north island hauled up an engine from this bomber, in late April 2004, the blades still rotated.
