Aircraft History
Built by Kawanishi Kokuki K. K. at Naruo. This flying boat was either model H6K-4 or H6K5.
Wartime History
Assigned to either that Yokusuka Kōkūtai or Yokohama Kōkūtai (more likely), operating from Tulagi Seaplane Base (Gavutu / Tanambogo).
Sunk off Tanambogo
Island, details unknown.
Wreckage
It appears only one wing of a Mavis rests here near M11 and in all likelihood was dragged or dumped there by US servicemen during the war or others at a later date.
Wreckage includes an upside-down wing and its two engines only. Much other assorted debris lays in the area and this stretches across toward Gavutu wharf where even more wartime detritus is to be found.
