Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F4U-1A Corsair bureau number 57897. Wartime History Assigned to USS Shangri-La (CV-38) to squadron VBF-85. Aircraft number 9. When lost, engine number HP204219 and propeller number 48634. Mission History On April 23, 1945 too off from USS Shangri-La CV-38 piloted by Lt(jg) Charles W. S. Hulland. Last reported position was approximately Lat 19.29N Long 135.44. When this aircraft failed to return it was offically listed as Missing In Action (MIA). Memorials Hulland was officially declared dead on April 25, 1946. He is memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing.
