IJN ? Kōkūtai
|
Aircraft History Built by Aichi at Watanabe Iron Works. True serial number unknown. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 0 Reconnaissance Seaplane / E13A1 Reisen Shiki Sui Tei (Jake) manufacture number unknown. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai (Air Group). No known markings or tail code. Display This Jake is displayed at Kakamigahara Aerospace Museum at Gifu. George Elephtheriou adds: "It is not in good condition. Cowling, engine, propeller, left wing, canopy, floats and struts, horizontal and vertical tail surfaces are all missing. And to make things worse it is poorly protected from the elements. I searched under the right wing and could barely find remains of the attachments of the main set of struts of the float to the wing but none of a second set. So this together with the attachment points of the antennas of the air-to-surface radar to the wing edge and fuselage sides indicated to me that the plane is an E13A1 equiped with radar. The only clearly visible paint remains are of the red-brown anti-corrosion primer covering all the surfaces and of the Hinomaru on the under surfaces of the wing. The fuselage is broken just behind the rear gunner so I was able to take photos of the remains of the cockpit." Contribute
