Pilot P/O Maxwell Irvine-Brown, RAAF 404736 (KIA / BR) Crashed October 8, 1941 Aircraft History Built by Brewster as model 339E. Constructors Number 224. Delivered to the Royal Air Force (RAF) as Buffalo Mark I serial number W8208. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Singapore. On August 26, 1941 it assigned to Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) No. 453 Squadron. Mission History On October 8, 1941 took off piloted by P/O Maxwell Irvine-Brown on a radio test flight. After becoming lost, this aircraft attempted to force landing on Buntang Island roughly 70 kilometers southeast of Singapore but crashed. Pilot Irvine-Brown was killed in the crash as the first fatality of 453 Squadron. Memorials Irvine-Brown was declared dead the day of the mission. He is buried at Kranji War Cemetery at grave 37.B.9.
