Aircraft History Built by the Department of Aircraft Production (DAP) at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne. Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Beaufort Mark VIII serial number A9-226. Wartime History Assigned to No. 8 Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. On October 9, 1943 damaged by bomb splinters while parked in a revetment at Vivigani Airfield on Goodenough Island. During November 1943 converted into components and abandoned. Wreckage Until the 1970s, this Beaufort remained at Vivigani Airfield on Goodenough Island. The rear fuselage was removed by an unknown person. The cockpit and center section was recovered from Vivigani in 1974 by Charles Darby for MARC. Since then, Beaufort Restoration Group owns the cockpit / nose section which they hope to restore as a museum exhibit.
