Wartime History
Wartime history unknown, possibly flying out of Kavieng. Force landed or ditched near New Hanover and Tsoi Island.

Wreckage
Discovered in the early 1960's, although the locals knew of its whereabouts earlier. Lying intact and upright on a sandy bottom. The wing 'hinomaru' is still visible to this day. It is a popular dive site for visitors to Kavieng.

Rod Pearce adds:
"I first dived this Kate about 1984. The plane is at Anaula Island in about 6 meters of water. Someone had tried to salvage the aircraft with the help of 44 gallon fuel drums but had done some damage to the tail section."
