Aircraft History Built by Martin in Baltimore, Maryland. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-26 Marauder serial number 40-1510. Wartime History On December 29, 1941 one of thirteen B-26s assigned to the 77th Bombardment Squadron (77th BS) at Elmendorf Field. Nose number 13. During March 1942, disassembled and shipped as cargo across the Pacific to Australia. On April 5, 1942 arrives Melbourne then reassembled at Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) by April 30, 1942 and flown to Garbutt Field at Townsville. Assigned to the 22nd Bombardment Group (22nd BG), 2nd Bombardment Squadron (2nd BS) as a replacement aircraft. No known nose art or nickname. Assigned to pilot McIver. On July 5, 1942 while parked at 7-Mile Drome near Port Moresby during a Japanese air raid damaged by a bomb. Afterwards, parts were salvaged then the damaged bomber was written off. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. References Note, other sources incorrectly list this B-26 as destroyed on September 6, 1942 [sic].
