Aircraft History
Built by Boeing at Seattle. Constructors Number 1068. On October 20, 1939 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) as B-17B Flying Fortress serial number 38-220 at March Field. On June 20, 1941 became part of the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). Afterwards flown to Panama.

Wartime History
Flown south to Panama. Assigned to the 6th Air Force (6th AF), 9th Bombardment Group (9th BG) based at Rio Hato Airfield. On December 24, 1941 based at David Field on Trinadad to fly long range patrol missions.

Mission History
On July 25, 1942 crashed in Guatemala. On August 3, 1942 salvaged. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.

Alae Supra Canalem (1997) pages 151, 152 lists B-17B 38-220 wrecked at San Jose, Guatemala on March 18, 1942 incorrectly, this crash was B-17B Flying Fortress 38-264.
