US Army CILHI 2000

Wartime History
Crashed during WWII or immediate postwar period near Chaing Mai.

Wreckage Investigation
On July 31 - August 1, 2000 US Army CILHI investigated this site, recovering a landing strut data plate, but no human remains, personal effects or material evidence that indicated anyone was aboard when it crashed. Several empty morphine bottles, gauges and part of the instrument panels were found.

Possible Post War Crash
On August 1, 2000, CILHI inquired with Michael Claringbould about the wreckage. He thinks it might be possible that the plane crashed between 1945 and 1947 when Allied forces were in Mae Hong Son City area. Or, a private individual who had purchased the plane as war surplus crashed it.

Engine Identification
Michael Claringbould, after provided with the data information from the landing strut and description of the engine, determined the engine was a Boeing Spearman, and his records show there were no American losses in the Mae Hong Son Province area during WWII.
