Wartime Histoty
During 1943 - 1945, this Zero fighter was part of a study to solve a problem of ice adhering to the surfaces of airplanes in cold areas. A center of the study was Dr. Ukichiro Nakaya who was an expert in studying snow. It crashed on Mount Nisekoannupuri on Hokkaido.

Discovery
On August 1990, a part of the Zero fighter was found at Mt. Nisekoannupuri.  More wreckage was discovered in late 2003, and reported in 2004 in a Niseko National Park, crashed during an experimental flight near the summit of the mountain.
