Aircraft History Built by Nakajima. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 2 Float Plane Fighter Suisen / A6M2-N (Rufe) manufacture number unknown (likely four digits in the range of of 5156–9119). Wartime History This Rufe was abandoned at Kiska Island. Wreckage On August 15, 1943 captured on Kiska Island. Likely, this Rufe was one of the fifteen surveyed by U.S. intelligence with manufacture numbers in the range of 5156–9119. Reportedly, the wreckage was recovered and transported to the Grumman in Bethpage, New York for a war bond drive and might have toured elsewhere in the United States.
