35th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, Fourteenth AF, at Chihkiang and
Nanning, China with F-5s, return to base at Chanyi.
WESTERN PACIFIC [Far East Air Force (FEAF)]: The 371st and 372d Bombardment
Squadrons (Heavy), 307th Bombardment Group (Heavy), move from Morotai Island to Clark Field, Luzon with B-24s.
SUNDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER 1945
Hostilities with Japan end officially with the signing of the instrument of
surrender aboard the USS Missouri (BB-63) in Tokyo Bay. 462 B-29 Superfortresses
fly over the battleship Missouri during the ceremonial surrender of Japan
in Tokyo Bay.

General Johnathan Wainwright is honored at the White House by President
Harry Truman, who presents him with the medal of honor for his actions in
the Philippines.
TUESDAY, 11 SEPTEMBER 1945
RAAF - Lost is C-47 A65-56 after take off from Milne Bay.
18 SEPTEMBER 1945
RAAF - Lost on a flight from Biak to Townsville is C-47 A65-61.
RNZAF: A group of Japanese aircraft that survived at Rabaul were painted in surrender markings and surrendered to New Zealand personnel. The group included: Ki-46 Dinah, A6M5 Zero 4043 and two other Zeros. Flown by Japanese crews, the aircraft took off from Vunakanau Airfield to Jacquinot
Bay Airfield. After landing, the pilots saluted, made a report and were flown back to Rabaul aboard a RNZAF PBY Catalina.
