Aircraft History Built by Supermarine in the United Kingdom as model FL Mk. VIII (Low Altitude Fighter). Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) Spitfire Mark LF.VIII serial number JG416. Disassembled and loaded as cargo and shipped overseas to Australia. Wartime History On January 3, 1944 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Spitfire Mark LF.VIII serial number A58-350. Reassembled by 3 Air Depot (3 AD). On April 14, 1944 assigned to No. 548 Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On June 10, 1944 took off piloted by P/O Brown as one of nine aircraft transiting northward with a Beaufort plus Spitfire A58-345, Spitfire A58-383 and this aircraft. While landing at Garbutt Field at Townsville, this Spitfire suffered ran into three oil drums and ground looped damaging the aircraft. Wreckage On June 19, 1944 assigned to 13 ARD. On September 25, 1945 assigned to 6 Air Depot (6 AD) for storage. By November 1946 converted to components and scrapped. References ADF Serials - Spitfire A58-350 Contribute
