Location
The Sepik River is one of the largest rivers in New Guinea that meanders roughly west to east with the mouth a wide delta located on the north coast of New Guinea. Offshore is Blupblup Island (Blup Blup Island). Further to the west is Wewak and further to the southeast is Hansa Bay. Wartime villages along the Sepik River include: Marienburg (Marienberg), Angoram (Angorum), Moim, Timbunke and Murik Lakes. Inland connects with the Biwat River. Prewar and during World War II located in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in the Angoram District of East Sepik Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Wartime History
During 1944, retreating and starving Japanese troops crossed the Sepik River and the massive swamp area surrounding on their way from points along the north coast walking westward towards Wewak.
